About The Venue

Carmel Coastal Retreat

Pathfinder-Impact Gap Year Program is based at the historical Carmel Coastal Retreat, a popular retreat above Victoria Bay, just outside George in the spectacular Garden Route tourist destination of South Africa. Carmel was established in the 1950’s and specialises in hosting Christian group conferences and families, with many regular guests and an on site community. Carmel boasts a Guest House, and Campsite, beautiful gardens, trails and quiet spaces and wonderful ocean and mountain views.

It has an incredible history and testimony of people experiencing the restorative love of God, and is a perfect fit for our Pathfinder-Impact Gap Year Program. We encourage families to stay over while visiting students, and experience Carmel and the region together.

Catering and Meals

The Table restaurant and coffee shop will provide our student meals, along with the missionary students on site. They offer great value, with stunning ocean and garden views. Meals are tasty home-style and nutritious, served in the dining room, deck or at Kayes, depending on other groups. Included in our student meals is a weekly braai, a fun time to fellowship where students enjoy South Africa’s favourite family tradition.

We have regular community gatherings and worship times, either in the Chapel or around the bonfire next to the sports fields. Movie nights, game nights and fun activities are often happening throughout the year.

Accommodation

We offer comfortable guys and girls dormitory accommodation at Carmel, with private bathrooms. We have a lounge/TV room available, as well as access to most of Carmel’s facilities (depending on groups and functions). There is free WiFi in the lounge areas.

Carmel is famous for it’s beautiful gardens, birdlife, walks and quiet spaces in nature where guests can read, relax or connect with God. There is an large swimming pool, volleyball court, table tennis, tennis court and other facilities available on site. Carmel has running trails through their forest, and is just above the famous Victoria Bay beach.
